Construction Crew Leader

AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.
What will you do?
The construction crew leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skills and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus, developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.

• Typically serve Tuesday - Saturday on the build site.
• Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
• Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
• Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.
• Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.

• Unique projects: Construction crew leaders will be a part of the largest volume of annual homes every built by our affiliate, primarily supporting our 26-home development that is part of a larger 56 home 2-phase project over the next 3 years. These homes are in the heart of the South Park neighborhood and will be providing affordability in a region that has a median home sale price that is double that of the national average. AmeriCorps members will work alongside future homeowners, volunteers, and Habitat staff as they learn and teach the skills needed to build homes safely and affordably. As part of the Habitat SKKC affiliate, they will also have the chance to engage with our community through our annual Women, Pride, and Veteran Build events, participate in career development trainings, and continue to advance our relationships with BIPOC homebuyers and developers through our Black Home Initiative partnership, and future projects with African Community Housing & Development.

• Living allowance of $18,700 for approximately 10 months of service.
